A Study of the Depression and Self-Esteem of the Cancer Patient

Abstract
|
|
|
The prupse of the study was depression and self-esteem of the cancer patient. The subjects for this study were 68 cancer patients, hospitalized at one University hospital in Daejon, The survey instruments used in the study were Zung's Self-rating
Depression Scale and M. rosenber's Self-esteem Scale. The survey was conducted from May 29th ,1992 to February 28th ,1993. The survey results were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS) and can be summerized as follows :
1. There was a statistically significant difference in the degree of cancer patients' depression according to their demographic characteristics such as condition of disease(F=4.9889, p<.01).
2. There was a statistically significant difference in the degree of cancer patients' self-esteem according to their demographic characteristics : legions of cancer(F=2.8663, p<.05).
3. There was negative correlation between depression and self-esteem of cancer patients (γ=-.5936, p<.05).
